The Secret of the Yamas
A SPIRITUAL GUIDE TO YOGA

by John McAfee

“...without a firm understanding of ourselves—who we are, how we relate to the world and why we do the things we do—we cannot possibly live life to its fullest.” Thus begins John McAfee’s spiritual revelation, The Secret of the Yamas. Here is a masterful look at self-discovery and self-awareness from a practice that originated at least 2500 years ago.

Many people think of yoga as a technique to gain physical strength, flexibility and better health (asanas). However, Patanjali, who first documented the organized science of yoga 2500 years ago, wrote, “The union of the various parts of the mind is gained through control of the mind, and then the perceiver comes to consciousness of himself.” And so, The Secret of the Yamas helps teach the aspect of yoga that increases our understanding of ourselves, our relationships and our actions.

While most people are familiar with the first limb of yoga, asanas (postures), it is the second limb (yamas) that deals with behavior: guidelines about non-violence, non-stealing, chastity, absence of greed and truthfulness. Mr. McAfee points out that it is relatively easy to pretend about or imitate these positive characteristics. However, the beauty of The Secret of the Yamas is learning the wisdom to understand Patanjali’s true significance of these conditions of behavior.

Author and seeker John McAfee is the founder of the Relational Yoga Mandarim in Woodland Park, Colorado. He has taught self-discovery techniques for over 15 years. This has enabled him to not only understand and live yoga in its entirety, but to offer us a clear, concise and (surely) effective guide to life.

In this reviewer’s opinion, The Secret of the Yamas is a must-read for everyone seeking self-discovery—everyone!

The Simple Truth About God
Learning To Live in Self Love
By Christine Lenick

Here is a glorious true story of a transition from dark to light and from pain to joy. Author, Christine Lenick, discovered joy from living the Truth — that our lives are a manifestation of how we choose to love ourselves. From the understanding of the simple truth that we are each God, we learn Self Love is the celebration of our magnificence and perfection in every moment and we choose pain just as we choose joy.

The Simple Truth About God shares the beautiful messages of souls across time about love, abundance, life, hate, joy and creation. They teach us “God is of life. God is. It is not a question of whether we are God. It is only a question of how we choose to honor and live that Truth. Our lives are the expression of what we choose. How we live, really live, reflects how we choose to be God.” This fundamental message, is the core value of this most enlightening and provocative book.

In an illuminating Afterward, the author shares the following insight on religion, “This book shares powerful, yet fully neutral, understandings about life and how we each create our lives. It judges no choice as better or worse than another choice because all choices are equal, just different.” And in answering the question, “Isn’t it blasphemous to say I am God”, we read, “It is strange how in certain religious traditions mankind believes that mankind is made in God’s image, but then looks in the mirror of life and says this is not God or what God looks like.”

The Simple Truth About God answers the question, “Why is it so hard for us to love ourselves?” And, “What are we afraid of?” Christine Lenick has found the answers to these and many other questions we find difficult to answer or even acknowledge. She shares her path to enlightenment and joy freely, honestly and lovingly.

The Simple Truth About God can change your life — a must read! Thank you, Christine Lenick for lighting the light!

INNER SECURITY & INFINITE WEALTH
Merging Self Worth and Net Worth

BY STUART ZIMMERMAN & JARED ROSEN

This reviewer just finished reading a great book; by definition, a book that not only amuses and teaches, but gets you to think. The book is entitled, Inner Security & Infinite Wealth and the authors are Stuart Zimmerman and Jared Rosen.

Think about this, for instance, “With inner security you can enjoy infinite wealth, a combination of both inner and outer wealth. This inner wealth you can experience is immeasurable. Your capacity to feel love, inner peace, joy and wholeness is endless. Therefore, there are no limits to how much pleasure you can receive from your outer wealth or material possessions. There are even no limits to how much money you can generate.”

Shortly after 9/11/01, the authors struck up a conversation that continued, off and on for over a year. They concluded that your net worth must not be confused with you self-worth; and that financial security shouldn’t be confused with inner security. How to achieve both; wealth beyond material wealth, is the focus of this well written and provocative new book.

The authors define the eight treasures of inner security and infinite wealth i.e. will inheritance, ownership, value, trust, allowance, investment and appreciation that are the bases of inner security. The reader quickly understands that these financial terms are also practical terms for life mastery. Inner Security & Infinite Wealth asks you, “Are you willing to exchange the limitations of the past for the infinite possibilities of this moment? Can you exchange money as an expression of love? Will you?”

Authors Zimmerman and Rosen tell us, “There is more to security than money and matter. Everything we have in the material world can be taken from us in a heartbeat but true security—inner security cannot.” This reviewer encourages you to read Inner Security & Infinite Wealth, a great read and a means to true fulfillment!

THE SUPREME MYSTIC
A BIOGRAPHICAL NOVEL ABOUT THE
EARLY YEARS OF LORD KRISHNA

by Amal Bhakta

Lord Krishna lived on Earth in India about 5,000 years ago. Today, more than 800 million people worship and glorify him daily. While there have been many books written about Krishna (notably Bhagavad Gita), it is the Hindu scripture Srimad Bhagavatam, written by Vyasa, that focuses on his personality and life. Author, mystic and teacher Amal Bhakta has penned a well-written and exciting historical novel based on this scripture.

THE SUPREME MYSTIC tells the story “…to involve and absorb the reader in Krishna’s life as deeply as possible and thereby make the reading experience a continuous transcendental meditation — one which is both pleasurable, instructive and inspiring.” In this reviewer’s opinion, Bhakta has succeeded admirably! In doing so, he has created a book for both the novice as well as the seasoned yoga student .
Like many historical novels, THE SUPREME MYSTIC is a page-turner; but unlike most, it offers the reader the rewarding concept about the universality of divine love. This epic work reveals the matchless miracles Lord Krishna performed as a child and youth, and contains the monumental battles he fought against King Kamsa’s sorcerers and Kamsa himself — to rid the world of evil and reestablish virtue.

If you’ve been looking for a book that can introduce you to the wonders of Lord Krishna; or, if you’re already an experienced yoga student but want to understand more about Krishna’s philosophy of pure love, look no further. The Supreme Mystic is the book this reviewer recommends!

POWER vs FORCE

By David R. Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D.

Man is like a cork in the sea of consciousness – he doesn’t know where he is, where he came from, or where he’s going, and he doesn’t know why. He asks the same questions century after century, and so he will continue, failing a quantum leap in consciousness.

In his groundbreaking book, POWER VS. FORCE, Dr. Hawkins explains how all of our experience, including sickness and health, is the result of consciousness — energy patterns beyond our ordinary awareness. To clarify how these energy patterns manifest in each of us, he created a Map of Consciousness that defines the various levels of consciousness and the spiritual steps to enlightenment.

To find the true path, Dr. Hawkins provides the reader with the means to detect falsehood. After extensive research, he concludes that kinesiological testing can distinguish truth from falsehood — in relationships, business, religion, art, sports – in any aspect of human life. .

Dr. Hawkins says, “My hope as author has been that this work might undo the very sources of pain, suffering and failure, and assist the evolution of human consciousness in each of us to rise to the level of joy that should be the essence of man’s experience.”

JESUS: His School Years

by Walter Parks

For millions of Christians, Jesus Christ is the Savior. For millions of non-Christians, Jesus is regarded as a prophet and someone to respect. And yet the bible records his birth and early years and then jumps in time to when Jesus was about thirty. For those of you who wonder about his life between twelve and thirty, JESUS: HIS SCHOOL YEARS is a must read.

Scholar and author Walter Parks has searched beyond the bible to learn where Jesus was and what He was doing during this time. Using the scattered, non-biblical facts available, such as the Dead Sea Scrolls and texts from ancient writers, Mr. Parks weaves a story of supposition that fills in the blanks and offers the reader an intriguing and emotional understanding of the human we know as Jesus.

We know the Essenes at Qumran accepted boys at age twelve and older into the Essene School at the Qumran Monastery. We also know that Nazareth was a large Essene community. Knowing that, it is logical to assume Jesus was accepted into the school. We know, from the Dead Sea Scrolls, that Essene education included the teachings of Zoroaster, Brahminism, the Vedas, the Upanishads, Yoga, Buddha and Confucius. Further, the Qumran Monastery was a place of secrecy and seclusion — what better place for Jesus, remembering that Herod tried to find and kill him as a baby

JESUS: HIS SCHOOL YEARS furnishes an in-depth look at life in the monastery; what they studied, what they discussed, what work they did — and most importantly, how their beliefs developed. Mr. Parks writes, “We learned that the Essenes had collected all of God’s teachings from almost all the great religions of the past and had taken the best of the compilations for their own. In a very similar manner, Jesus then took these great Essene lessons, made His very important changes, and created His eternal teachings.”

Walter Parks has given us a fascinating look at what might have been. Jesus: His School Years, in this reviewer’s opinion, is a revealing, easy-to-read look at the transition of a twelve year old boy to the Messiah!.
