The Enneagram A Nine Point Guide
By Margaret Cochran
 7. The DREAMER Sevens
are visionaries, adventurers and risk takers. They want the best of everything
and want to have fun. Sevens prefer a light touch when it comes to intimate
relationships; they like challenges and can think quickly.
Sevens have
wings of Six The Doubter, and Eight The Leader, so they can be suspicious and
ambivalent on the one hand and somewhat overbearing and domineering on the
other.
The heart point of Seven is Five, The Observer, so when Sevens
love someone or something they can become quite analytical and cerebral about
the issue or person in question. The stress point of Seven is One, The
Perfectionist, therefore, when Sevens are displeased or unhappy, they can
‘nit-pick’ and be critical.
Motto: “Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow
we may have to commit ourselves to work or deal with details or some blasted
thing”
8. The LEADER Eights often have a larger than life,
tough façade. They value directness and honesty but deep down they are very
sensitive and easily hurt. They are individualistic and not fond of conforming.
They are great decision makers and often fight for the underdog.
The
wings of Eight are Nine, The Diplomat, and Seven, The Visionary. Eights can be
very spiritual and see the value in all things and can also have a taste for
finery and the ‘good’ life.
The heart point of Eight is Two, The Giver,
so when Eights love someone or something, they will do everything in their power
to offer protection, support and help. The stress point of Eight is Five, The
Observer, so when Eights are unhappy they go up in their heads and become very
uncomfortable with vulnerability or perceived vulnerability such as any form of
criticism.
Motto: “There is my way and the highway”
9. The
DIPLOMAT Nines are not fond of conflict and yet, they have a gift for
bringing warring parties together in harmony. They see the value in all things;
they are quite loving and tend to be not much bothered by aesthetics. They can
be slow to act and are famous for their pilot projects, pile it here, pile it
there…
The wings of Nine are Eight, The Leader, and One, The
Perfectionist so Nines can be stubborn and defensive as well as critical and
particular.
The heart point of Nine is Three, The Achiever. When Nines
love someone or something they can become quite productive and hardworking. The
stress point of Nine is Six, The Doubter, so when Nines are angry or frustrated
they may become passive aggressive, suspicious and questioning of authority.
Motto: “I’ll get right on it, one of these days”
The Enneagram is an
incredibly powerful and useful tool for constructively interacting with those in
the world around us and for greater comprehension of the most important, and
possibly most confusing person of all, ourselves!
Personal Note from Dr.
Cochran
“I see things as a whole and acknowledge the intricate value of the
parts therein. In our culture, we tend to value the rational and linear ways of
exploring and thinking about the world above all else. Our senses need not be
limited to just perceiving the three dimensional, corporeal world. Science has
shown that everything is made of energy which we receive and interpret at
various levels and to varying degrees.”
“What I’m working to achieve is a
balance of mind, body and spirit. Good health is dependent on a constructive,
realistic perspective of the world around us and the world within. When we get
in touch with both worlds, we can start to build from there. After that,
anything and everything is possible. The most special moments for me are when I
see people transformed; when they become at home with themselves. My goal is to
help people confront their fears and conquer them. Whether we’re dealing with
codependent relationships, substance abuse or personal crisis, the victory lies
in being ourselves. I’m here to help do just that, find answers and get where
you want to go in life. Once you’ve faced the fears, your achievements and
potential are limitless.”
