Will Anything Come Back To Me?
By Sophia Falke
I was at a local department store recently when the checkout clerk admired my
necklace. “Where did you get it?” she asked. “I’d really like to get one like
it.” The challenge, as usual, was that either it was too long ago to still be
available or I simply forgot who I got it from. In this case it fell under the
“simply forgot” category.
This woman admired my necklace so much that I took it off and held it out to
her. “No, no, I didn’t mean for you to give it to me.” I didn’t move, didn’t
speak. “No, I couldn’t accept.” I continued to hold out the necklace without
speaking, simply looking into her eyes thinking, “If you want your good, you
need to accept it and reach out for it.” And, finally, she did. She gave me a
hug and tears of thanks as I left the store.
Now I really liked that necklace, but my guidance said to release it. “What’s
going to happen as a result of giving the necklace? Will anything come back to
me?” I asked myself. “It doesn’t matter. It was simply yours to do.” was my
answer. “Yes,” I agreed, “I don’t know why, but yes.”
My next stop was a hardware store to purchase a water shut-off devise for my
home. I did self-checkout but the device didn’t have a bar code. “Could you go
back and find one with a bar code?” the clerk asked. I did. No bar code, but at
least a sign with the name of the gadget. I dutifully reported back to the clerk
and teased that I would accept a discount for walking to the back of the store
to check on the item. “I can actually do that,” he responded. After several
minutes on his computer he said, “It’s yours. No charge. I can’t find it in our
system.”
I know that we are all in a divine flow. I know that we receive back many times
more than what we give. I’m just not accustomed to seeing evidence so quickly
and clearly. And to make it even better, that same day I received an e-mail from
the woman who had sold me the necklace.
Is it really that easy? Can our good come to us that quickly when we give
freely? In this scenario, the answer is an emphatic “Yes!” But sometimes, it
isn’t so obvious. Or, is our good coming to us in a continuous flow but we don’t
recognize and reach out for it?
I believe we live in an abundant universe that is always showering us with
blessings. The challenge, of course, is that instead of standing with our faces
turned upward and our arms outstretched to receive our good, we pull out the
umbrella of “It shouldn’t be this easy,” “I don’t deserve this,” or “Times are
hard” and deflect this shower of abundance.
The checkout clerk at the department store had pulled out her deflection
umbrella when I offered the necklace. In this case, I held out the necklace (her
good) long enough for her to put away the barrier and accept and reach out. If
she had waited much longer, I would have pulled back the necklace (the Universe,
working through me, to shower its abundance). I wonder if her simple, though
hesitant, act of acceptance opened her thinking to recognize and accept
abundance in other areas of her life.
A necklace may seem like a small thing, but everything that we think, say, or do
is a hologram of our entire life. Notice the difference in energy between “Life
stinks” and “It’s a beautiful day” or between hording and stealing versus giving
and receiving. The first in each pairing conveys fear and lack consciousness,
the second, optimism and abundance. As we shift our thinking from fear and lack
to noticing and embracing the plethora of evidence that we live in a lavish
universe, our good will increase. It’s a law of attraction. It’s a law of
physics. It is the law.
To answer the question in this article’s title, “Does ‘it’ really come around?”
the short answer is “Yes!” Wherever we focus our attention, wherever we focus
our thoughts, emotions, and actions, we will attract more of the same. Focus on
the problem, we get more problems. Focus on the possibilities in the same
situation, we invite a myriad of solutions and opportunities. It’s a
choice…always. Same situation, same people, same timeframe…choice. Recognize the
possibilities and reach out for and accept our good or become mired in the
problem. Choice. Which “it” do we want to come around? What do we want to
attract more of? The answer is yours and mine to make every moment of every day.
Remember the hardware store clerk I mentioned at the beginning who told me I
could have the water shut-off device at no charge? How long do you think I
“pondered” his offer? What choice do you think I made? Woohoo! Tallyho! Abundant
Universe, here I am!
