The Wonderful World of Chiropractic
Provided by
Dr. Jo Briggs, DC
Below is a brief outline of Chiropractic techniques.
This is by no means a complete listing of…it is only a snippet of different
practices.
Bio-Energetic Synchronization Technique B.E.S.T. is an
energy healing technique that uses energy meridians, acupressure points and
kinesiology to clear energetic interference in the body and allows natural
healing to occur. Dr. Morter (founder) has spent over four decades researching,
developing and practicing this method with miraculous results!
B.E.S.T.
is a non-force, energy balancing, hands on procedure used to help reestablish
the full healing potential of the body. Understanding the body makes no mistakes
regarding health and longevity, B.E.S.T. principles acknowledge the concept of
Interference we create with our conscious mind. This Interference causes
imbalance in the autonomic nervous system, leading to exhaustion of our organ
systems over time. Researched at major universities, taught in several
Chiropractic Colleges and in professional continuing education seminars,
B.E.S.T. is recognized as an effective healing science. The principles and
concepts of Morter HealthSystem and B.E.S.T. technique are available to
families, therapists and health care practitioners.
mPower March is a
technique designed to use contralateral movement and stretching to
neurologically update and re-time your body. This simple stretch can be quite
invigorating and yet provide an overall relaxed feeling as the muscles
re-balance. People immediately report a feeling of overall balance and of being
more centered. This procedure, taught to practitioners and their patients,
should be done at least twice a day for 2-3 minutes.
B.E.S.T. Release
expands the stretching movements utilized in mPower March by adding conscious
thought and emotional memory components. Designed to kinesologically test your
body for reaction to emotional thought memory patterns, this release exercise
serves to update the body to current need rather than past stored patterns. A
common response is that “I didn’t realize that feeling was associated with my
complaint!” or “Now I see how this was keeping me from manifesting my goals!”
Done in conjunction with mPower March, the entire process can take as little as
3-4 minutes per session. It can be done with a partner or privately and is
taught to practitioners and patients.
Emotional B.E.S.T. utilizes
advanced technology developed to update higher brain interference from
expression in the physical body. When emotional thoughts such as worry, guilt,
fear, judgment, to name just a few, become the overriding factor in our memory
patterns, interference with the divine plan for our perfect health and wellness
becomes the norm. This interference, formulated by conscious thought which in
turn becomes a pattern, prevents the true expression of our physical bodies
healing capability. Emotional B.E.S.T. is an advanced procedure to help identify
this emotional pattern, update the interference, and then allow the body to
function based on current situations rather than past experiences. This is the
core of B.E.S.T. technology. This is the pattern for health and wellness. The
pattern unlocks the power. This procedure usually takes between 5-15 minutes to
complete.
Physical B.E.S.T. procedure is based on scientific principles
utilizing light pressure contacts on the surface of the body to address
parasympathetic and sympathetic imbalances. When expressed in the intrinsic
muscles of the spine as a Chiropractic Subluxation, pinched nerve, or muscle
spasm, this pattern of imbalance can lead to symptoms of discomfort and loss of
function throughout the entire body. Physical B.E.S.T. offers a non-force way to
update patterns of stress and discomfort which have been surfacing in both acute
pain and chronic conditions. The physical B.E.S.T. procedure is administered in
the prone position, utilizing the prone leg check, palpating the spinal muscles,
and subsequently holding pressure points along the spine, sacrum, and skull.
When muscles are balanced and the updated pattern restored, spinal muscle spasm,
vertebral subluxation, and nerve pressure are removed.
The Activator
Method The Activator Method is a gentle, low-force approach to chiropractic
care. Since the late 1960’s the technique has been used safely on patients;
bringing relief to people with health concerns.
Incorporating the latest
advances in orthopedic, neurological and chiropractic examinations, this unique
system of administering spinal adjustments using research-based analysis and the
Activator Adjusting Instrument can help restore spinal balance safely and
comfortably.
Because of its effectiveness and gentle nature, the
Activator Method has grown to become the world’s most widely-used instrument
chiropractic technique.
How does the Activator Method work? The
technique utilizes specific protocols to detect spinal joint dysfunction,
analyze leg length, identify issues with body mechanics, and test neurological
reflexes. By analyzing the results of these examinations, an Activator doctor
can initiate the process of restoring spinal balance gently and effectively.
The Activator Adjusting Instrument delivers low-force chiropractic
adjustments. This unique hand-held instrument was designed to give patients a
specific and gentle adjustment.
The Activator provides a comfortable,
controlled, thrust. In fact, adjustments are so quick and measured, the body’s
muscles are less likely to resist.
Is the Activator Method right for you?
Patients from all ages can enjoy the benefits of an Activator adjustment. The
technique is especially helpful for children who sometimes have trouble laying
still. The Activator adjustment is so quick and comfortable, children often look
forward to their next visit! Older patients, or those with arthritis,
osteoporosis or other bone-weakening conditions, find the Activator Method
effective and gentle.
Though some believe chiropractic care is intended
to relieve neck and back pain, this form of therapy has more far-reaching
benefits. A wide variety of health problems stem from imbalance and dysfunction
of the spinal joint and nervous system. Everyday living, stress and old injuries
can cause vertebrae to lose their proper position or motion. This dysfunction
can irritate your nervous system, causing pain and nerve interference.
Applied Kinesiology (AK) Founder Dr. George J. Goodheart, Jr. This system
evaluates structural, chemical and mental aspects using manual muscle testing
with other standard methods of diagnosis.
The doctor using AK finds an
unbalanced muscle and attempts to determine why that muscle is not functioning.
Treatments may involve specific joint manipulation, various myofascial
therapies, cranial techniques, meridian and acupuncture skills, clinical
nutrition, dietary management, counseling skills, evaluating environ-mental
irritants and various reflex procedures. AK uses the Triad of Health. That is
Chemical, Mental and Structural factors that balance the major health
categories.
The Triad of Health is interactive. All sides must be
evaluated for the under-lying cause of a problem. A health problem on one side
can affect other sides. For example, a chemical imbalance can cause mental
symptoms. AK enables the doctor to evaluate triad’s balance and direct therapy
toward imbalanced side or sides.
AK skills are developed and approved by
the International College of Applied Kinesiology Board of Standards. These
skills are refined from many disciplines including Chiropractic, Osteopathy,
Medicine, Dentistry, Acupuncture, Biochemistry, Psychology, Homeopathy, and
Naturopathy etc.
Summary AK is a diagnostic system using manual muscle
testing to augment normal examination procedures.
The body’s
foundation is formed by the pelvic girdle. When this bony structure consisting
of hip bones and the lower bones of the back is level, there will be maximum
balance and stability in the spinal column. When the pelvic girdle or any of the
vertebrae (bones making up the spinal column) become tilted or rotated out of
proper position, dramatic changes may occur in the body.
These
misalignments can cause pressure on the discs that separate the vertebrae. (The
disc condition is key to the patient’s health.) Vertebra can become misaligned
either from the cumulative effects of several minor episodes or from a single
accident. Nature frequently is able to cope with these jolts to the spinal
column. Sometimes, though, vertebrae tilted or rotated out of their normal
position can be too much for nature to deal with.
To more fully
understand what occurs, we should know that the discs are really pads between
the vertebrae and consist of a spongy substance surrounded by fibers of
cartilage. When there is misalignment of a vertebra, there is uneven pressure on
the disc causing it to swell and protrude. (One often hears this referred to as
a slipped, herniated or ruptured disc.)
Chiropractors call this a
Subluxation when it results in the pinching or compressing of the nerves that
run through that particular area. These compressed nerves often become inflamed
and impede the proper transmission of impulses to the section of the body
controlled by these nerves.
Generally, misaligned vertebrae in the spine
are easily recognized, particularly those in the upper portion of the vertebral
column. However, less easily found and often overlooked are misalignments in the
lower portions of the spine.
The ability to recognize and correct these
misalignments forms an integral part of the Gonstead Concept. For example: When
the lower portion of the spinal column has misaligned vertebra, the body tries
to keep itself and its skeleton upright and straight. Often it compensates by
causing a vertebra above to become misaligned. This is the body’s way of
attempting to re-establish the normal perpendicular position of the body.
If just the top misaligned vertebra was adjusted, in cases where additional
vertebrae are misaligned, only limited relief could result. This would not be
getting to the source of the trouble. For complete and lasting results, all of
the misaligned vertebrae must be identified and then a program can be initiated
to restore them to their normal position. Every chiropractic case presents a
different combination of misaligned vertebrae.
