Dear ILT Readers,
In October you had an article by Sophia Falke
speaking of the “Chatter of Monkey Mind”. I would like to know how long it took
her to control the monkey mind and what are her secrets. My mind is constantly
working overtime…especially during meditation. How do I stop sabotaging myself
and get to the point of knowing which direction to go? Please help me
understand.
Billy M. W. Hollywood, CA
Dear Billy M.,
In your letter to the ILT Readers, you asked how long it took me to control
Monkey Mind and what are my secrets. Actually, we don’t control Monkey Mind (our
self-limiting, self-doubting, internal conversations). Monkey Mind is normal and
will always be part of our life. It generally starts its chatter when we step
outside our comfort zone and grows louder and more insistent when we’re up to
something big.
Chatter can also come up during meditation when we are
getting in touch with that inner voice that calls us higher and gets us in touch
with our life’s purpose. When the chatter starts during meditation, I simply
acknowledge that it is there (it will just screech louder if I try to suppress
it) and shift my focus back to the guidance of the meditation. I often chuckle
when Monkey Mind chatters and say, “Well there you are again! Thank you for
sharing, but I am more interested in…(and then I speak my purpose if it is
during meditation or the goal I am working toward if it comes up during regular
activities). My article this month addresses your question on knowing which way
to go. Namaste,

Dear ILT Readers,
There is so much hype with regards to the end times of 2012. With
all the fear being attached to the December 21st event, is it any wonder it will
take place. I read all the time about how our thoughts manifest. Why aren’t
there more people who profess to be enlightened not working on the positive
aspect of this major event? It seems that Hollywood has sensationalized it and
people are buying into it. When do we, as a society, step up to the plate and
look at 2012 as a new adventure; a time where we have the opportunity to stand
together and believe that only good will be the result of December 21, 2012?
Jonathan T. Salem, NY
Dear Jonathan,
I agree that there needs to be
a more positive outlook for 2012. According to the Mayan Elders, the visions
they saw were far different. Now, because of all the hype and fear mongers, the
2012 scenario has been altered. As more people get on the bandwagon of fear the
more likely their perceptions will be realized. Our world may be in for a roller
coaster ride; yet, it does not need to be the destruction so many are
predicting. People seem to fear the worst and look no further. How can we shift
our consciousness in a positive energy that attracts only the magnificent souls
that we are? Wake up, smell the roses, see the world in its glory and be aware
of each thought, each action or reaction. Accept your responsibility and honor
the essence of your true-self. We must plant the seed of change and love in the
minds of the doomsayers. Take heart and do not give in to those negative
harbingers.
