Editorial 

First off, I would like to say, “thank you” to both Pat and Maria who called recently threatening me with bodily harm after they read the heart-warming article, “A Story of the Heart.” For Pat, it was two days of tears, for Maria, “you made me cry.”

I thought about it for a minute and must say I was delighted…we don’t permit those emotions that touch us very often, especially when it comes to tears of the heart and soul.

I believe we, as a society, have become so busy and focused on life that we don’t live life, we survive it. It is in survival that we don’t always allow our heart-rendering emotions to surface. The love, the joy and compassion, the tears of laughter or sadness are pushed away in pursuit of “staying the course” with the world. Perhaps we tap into the mass consciousness of being “doers” — basing who we are on our jobs and successes. The competition of “keeping up with the Jones”, elicits emotions of fear, anger, lack of compassion and lots of stress. Those feelings seem to dominate our population—all in the name of success and survival.

I also believe that somewhere, deep within us, there resides a softer side of humanity—one that embraces the gentleness and love of Spirit.

When we live our lives from survival, we haven’t the time to reach within the inner depths of our soul and connect with the magnificence of our spirit. We, therefore, keep ourselves locked into a world of stress, competition and fear. We allow the illusion to become the “norm” of life.

However, in the background of our soul and cellular memory resides the truth, and, it is up to each individual to bring to the foreground those long forgotten memories.

As time marches on, we may indeed find ourselves running to keep up. Yet, in the overall scheme of life, we don’t have to accomplish it all in this lifetime. Remember, the busier we become the more likely we are to lose ourselves in the process.

We live in a world of emotions. Whether driven from love or fear they will alter the course of humanity. We must not become another society such as Atlantis, a continent destroyed in the wake of fear. I believe that we are at a fork in the road. In one direction we have, “being” while the other reads, “doing.” One road leads to happiness, the other, illusion.

Is it not time that we return to our roots of “being” and view the essence of Spirit in a universe of unlimited beauty and potential…because in the end, all we have, all that we are, is but the reflection of Spirit—and therein lies our destiny.
