This Month's
Spiritual Cinema Circle Films
SPEECHLESS:
Geno Andrews returns with his third film for the Spiritual Cinema Circle
(following Jillian’s Vantage and The Visits) with this insightful short film
about a man who dives face first into a life challenge for his own hidden
reasons. Cerebral palsy has left his speech a bit challenged, and the courage it
takes for him to join a collegiate speech class is monumental. There is more to
this mystery than first meets the eye, and the film ends up revealing a much
deeper lesson to the story. Written and directed by (and starring!) Geno
Andrews. 22 min..
THE
LETTER WRITER:
Also returning with his third film for the Spiritual Cinema
Circle (following Baptists at our Barbecue and Unfolding), director Christian
Vuissa brings us this clever and touching short film about a man in the midst of
writing a letter. So simple, yet so profound, this sweet film will resonate for
a long time to come. Written and directed by Christian Vuissa. 11 min.
CLOSER
THAN EVER:
This is Scott Cervine’s second film for the SCC (following the
hilarious Out of Proportion), and feels a bit like a sequel to his first short.
With Scott’s signature great humor and self-reflection, it continues the
insight into how we navigate the passing of a parent. Elaborating on how our
deepest and most hidden emotions are often the underlying cause of outer
“issues,” Scott tackles the fear of commitment in this film with some very
surprising results! Written, directed by, and starring, Scott Cervine. 12 min.
EMMANUEL’S
GIFT:
Narrated by Oprah Winfrey, this is one of the most beautiful and touching
documentaries we have been privileged to bring to the SCC. Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah
is a disabled man from Ghana whose father abandoned him and whose village
dismissed him. Born in a country where a handicap indicates a family curse, a
life of begging in the streets was all Emmanuel had to look forward to. However,
he was born with the gift of knowing that he deserves a life full of the
benefits of school, job, family, love, and accomplishment in spite of limiting
cultural beliefs. He is a man who had nothing, but gave everything. Can he bring
this knowing to the rest of his country? After watching this film, we believe
this man is capable of absolutely anything! Directed by Lisa Lax and Nancy
Stern, written by Liz Massie and Lisa Lax. 80 minutes in English and with
English subtitles.
BY
THE SEA:
Lena’s life is falling apart on every possible level, and it seems
there’s nowhere to go but out. A homeless man becomes her angel for a day,
convincing her to take a leap into the unknown possibility of what her life
could be. As she follows a series of coincidences into a new job at a beach
resort, she discovers a past she never knew about, finding guidance where she
least expects it. A story about leaving old behavior behind to make way for a
new life of love and fulfillment, By The Sea is a sweet, entertaining journey
where the past comes to visit to help heal the future. Directed by Dean Barnes,
written by Dean H. Huh and Dean Barnes. 94 min.
BONUS:
Conversations with God: This month’s installment of our Conversations with God
“behind the scenes” video diary, focuses on an all-day shoot at a busy
airport where the cast and crew were relieved to finally be able to come in from
the cold!
