Kids Are Spiritual People Too
By Marsha Calder
As parents, we will do virtually anything to ensure the safety, health and emotional well-being of our children. However, one essential component often overlooked is our child’s spiritual development. With the influx of Indigo, Crystal and Rainbow children, it is imperative to nurture their spirituality. Not acknowledging this critical piece of their make-up may hinder their innate talents and ultimately, their ability to change our planet.
These New Age kids are much wiser about the spiritual composition of the world around us than many adults are. They have an innate understanding of our interconnectedness and seem to go out of their way to assist others. As I see it, they are “hard wired” and ready to go when they get here. Most of us adults have undergone a process of discovery to arrive at our newly enlightened state. Not true with these little guys! Much of what I have learned has been through the innocent revelations shared by my three very intuitive children.
We parents make sure that our babies are well fed, clean and clothed warmly. We ensure their safety with car seats, play pens and child-proof cabinet locks. When they are toddlers and display an inability to share, we gently intervene and teach them how to do so. We exercise caution to separate the behaviors from the child during discipline so as not to harm an emerging self-esteem. As they grow older, we provide cell phones and boring, four-cylinder cars with large air bags. We check homework and worry about education. We pay for piano lessons and save for college. We drive to soccer, baseball, dance lessons and scouts. With the exception of catechism classes, saying grace during holiday dinners and teaching “do unto others,” are we truly doing all we can to develop a sense of spiritual self in our children?
It is my opinion that the reason these special children are arriving on our planet in record numbers is because they are here to lead us into a new (and better!) tomorrow. They are extremely intuitive, sensitive and caring. I feel it is our obligation as parents to nurture a child’s spiritual development, as well. Encouragement allows a child to uncover his gifts or share her innate spiritual understanding. It is truly a wonderful thing to experience together!
When my son, Brad, was seven, he asked me if I had ever seen God. When I replied I had not, he asked if I wanted to know what He looked like. Upon receiving my affirmative answer, my son drew a picture of God. Brad explained that he had indeed seen God and spoken with Him. As you can imagine, my understanding into this child’s world took on a new light.
Until this point in time, we had attended various Protestant churches, including Sunday School lessons. The day that Brad, the ultimate pacifist, stood rooted to the sidewalk and bellowed at the top of his lungs that he wasn’t going to put one foot inside his Sunday School room ever again, my husband and I listened intently. He explained that his teachers “didn’t get it” and were talking “blither-blather” about religion. He felt he knew more about God than they did; he knew the truth. We turned on our heels, headed for the parking lot and have never been back.
Brad has always been very spiritual and is what I call a “deep thinker”. He has tremendous insight for an 11-year-old. Brad uses his communication with God to perform healing work on both people and animals. A gifted animal communicator, he particularly loves working with rescued pets. As his mom, I encourage him to continually explore his spiritual path. He’s well on his way and I couldn’t be more proud.
With each new child I meet, I realize they have more in common with my son than I first thought. Brad’s gifts are not so unusual. What is unusual is the fact that his father and I have listened, believed and facilitated conversation about his unique experiences. We also learned how to draw out and document the incredible spiritual knowledge he had not yet tapped into.
Do you know where your child stands with his spirituality? Could it be you aren’t sure of your own spiritual beliefs? Do you feel spirituality is an adult pursuit and is too advanced for a child to comprehend? Don’t wait for a college philosophy course to awaken your child’s interest in spiritual matters. Tackle the subject now, even while she is young.
I encourage you to talk with your child. Uncover his spiritual side. Each and every child has special gifts. Enjoy the process of discovery together. You might be surprised by what you learn!
Below is a brief summary of Indigo, Crystal and Rainbow children.
Who Are The Indigo, Crystal & Rainbow Children?
These names have come to represent the New Age children because of their similarly colored auras. The Indigos display a deep indigo blue in their aura. Crystals have transparent auras reflecting many pastel colors. The Rainbow children are said to radiate energy like a rainbow. Each of these groups is perhaps more easily identified by various characteristics and personality traits.
Born since the early 1980’s, the Indigo Children are highly clairvoyant and possess what has been called a “warrior spirit”. They often display a temper or act out in traditional educational settings, which only serve to confine them. As a result, many of these precious children are misunderstood and all too often medicated into submission. Their feisty temperaments and intolerance of the status quo are designed to “wake us up” so we can see the lack of integrity that exists in our society today. The Indigos’ collective consciousness is here to help us break down old standards that no longer serve us, particularly in education, law and government. They are leading the way to change.
Following on the heels of the Indigos are the Crystal children, born since the mid-1990’s. This group is quite different, as they possess a very sensitive, loving and gentle nature. These kids are easily recognized by their eyes, usually their most prominent feature. When locking eyes with a Crystal child, you feel as if your soul has been laid bare. These children are what I call “hard wired” for spiritual communication. Often late talkers, these toddlers rely on telepathy and other forms of non-verbal communication during their first few years. Many Crystal children are tested for speech delays or autism. Once talking, they joyously tell of past lives, spirits and angels. They are fascinated with rocks and crystals. They are particularly drawn to animals and the elderly. They often have food and environmental sensitivities. They are extremely empathic. Crystal children are marching to a different beat and when in their presence, they are so lovable you can’t keep yourself from joining them. And that’s exactly what they want us to do!
The Rainbow children are the smallest population of New Age children, as they are just beginning to arrive. With Crystal children as their parents, these kids are simply here to serve others. The Rainbow children are fearless, without karmic ties and tend to be born into families without dysfunction. These special children are very psychic and are natural born healers. They embody our true potential as human beings.
In my mother’s day, the adage, “a child should be seen and not heard”, dictated how she was raised. Today, her grandchildren are, “seen, heard, recorded, reflected upon and learned from”. The New Age children have much to teach us and with our listening we help guide a generation of spiritual beings into their greatness.
