Her day began quite ordinary—it was always the same routine, day in and day out. However, today was going to be different. She wanted results that mirrored the other side of herself. The one that lived on the edge with excitement, free abandon and a love for life and humanity. She thought, February, the month of love would be the perfect time to begin anew. So, with renewed determination she began her journey into a world she only dreamed about. February would become her stepping off point into self-empowerment…she was ready—and perhaps this will be a Paul Harvey moment with his famous line… “and now for the rest of the story.” What does an ordinary life look like verses an extraordinary life? Can we live from both scenarios? As the young woman above explained to me, “I feel like I have two sides of me. One is status quo while that other part of me is working to bust out and live life to its’ fullest. It’s that part of me that craves something new and exhilarating.” When I asked her what she meant by status quo the answer was, “I am in a holding pattern with nothing happening to motive me to move forward. Life is just black and white with no in-between and on some days I feel really, really trapped. It’s at that point of hopelessness that I begin to want more than the humdrum life I am living. It’s at that time that I begin to look at how I can change my circumstances and move outside the ordinary into the extraordinary. I’m still working on it and each time I get a little further along the path to breaking these chains of restriction. It may not happen today…but it will happen.” This candid conversation reminded me that no matter how mundane one’s life can become, there is always the other side. The one that wants excitement and a renewal of existence. The side that is willing to step out of the box and shout “here I am, ready to take my place among the extraordinary.” Perhaps it is time to re-examine oneself in the mirror and recognize there stands not only the ordinary but the extraordinary self of one being. We are both ordinary and extraordinary beings working in unison to realize our multifaceted existence. I feel if we view the ordinary as negative then we miss the point. In our Yin Yang society there has to be a balance, and what better way to obtain this than to embrace both halves and realize the wholeness of who we are. May we all enjoy our lives…both ordinary and extraordinary. Take care my friends and happy Valentine’s Day! Many blessings. In
