Editorial / Our Rain Forests 

Happy holidays my friends. It has indeed been a long month and a longer time since I have been this late in getting the paper out.

Down through the years I have read many articles and recently one in particular had a deep impact on me. It was about the rainforests and how beneficial they are and how endangered they are becoming. After reading about their magnificence and the danger of destruction I was reminded of the Star Trek movies and the one in particular about the Enterprise having to go back in time, to San Francisco and return with some Humpback whales in order to save the Earth. Through time humanity had destroyed a vital species which threw the ecological balance off and our very world was in danger of destruction.

I do believe that I was led to read an 8,000 word article that fits the above scenario. I feel it important to say that we must be more conscious of our environment and all that is provided from nature’s storehouse of wealth. The rainforests have provided us with so much in the medical/health fields; the plant kingdom and animal species have given us insights into the many challenges we face today.

I believe all living things hold within their realm the balance of our world. When we eliminate one species we tip the scales of balance. As with the Star Trek movie, they had to go back in time in order to save present day Earth…let us not have to meet that challenge, let us have the foresight to keep the balance. I do feel that it would be easy to become an activist for the cause of our disappearing rainforests.
