Being Lucky In EverythingBy Terry Cole Whittaker Good and bad luck are first and always a state of mind. By knowing the art and science of controlling one’s mind, a person can change their luck for the better and thus enjoy the benefits of good fortune. In an instant, with the right attitude, one can become fortunate; similarly, a fortunate person, influenced by either a challenging situation or the opinion or words of negative and fearful people, can become instantly unfortunate. We live in the mind and, although, we are not a mind each of us has one. The mind can be our best friend or worst enemy. Our job is to make the mind work for us so that we can be happy, healthy, and prosperous, instead of allowing the mind to cast us into misery, lack, and limitation. One day, I mentioned to my friend that I was surprised how dark and gloomy the day was. She laughed and pointed out that it was a very sunny day, but I was wearing dark glasses. Taking off the glasses, I realized she was right. The change from gloomy to bright was instant. I removed the filter that had been in front of my eyes, and my world changed. This was such a good lesson in the power of perception. Perception determines what we think, desire, say, feel, and do, as it works like a filter through which we view life and thus make our decisions. Every decision we act upon sets our destiny in motion. Because we are all equal in quality being equal parts of God, no one is more or less than another. However, what we do with what we have is what makes the difference, and by observing the people of the world there are enormous differences. Any person who has ever been, is now, or will be is a person just like you and me in quality, a spark of God; therefore Godlike in nature. According to Vedic knowledge, we are made of sat chit ananda or eternal consciousness, and bliss. Not bad considering this gives us everything we could possibly desire. How do we access this infinite and unlimited Divine potential that we are? The first step is to understand who we are and how we function. A big part of what controls our lives are the impressions or memories stored in our sub or unconscious mind. This collection of experiences causes us to think, and what we think over and over we believe. People have faith in their beliefs, which are thoughts repeated, whether these thoughts are actually true or not. As you know faith is a mystical and supernatural ingredient necessary for any manifestation. A person may believe and have faith in the thought, “I am unlucky, and nothing good ever happens to me.” For this person, even when something good happens, he or she won’t notice it. Plus, the person with this mind set, will more than likely choose association with people who have the same point of view, thus reinforcing the repeated thought called a belief. Ever try and change the mind of a person who has faith in her beliefs even if her beliefs are causing her problems? From one person’s point of view, the glass is half empty and because of this may feel unhappy, believing there is not much. From another person’s point of view, the glass is half full, thus they feel grateful for their abundance and feel blessed. Both are right, only the feelings, attitude, and thus potential to experience prosperity and good fortune are completely opposite. Some say being positive and fortunate is not realistic. But what is reality but what we say it is anyway? It is a scientific fact that by being enthused and positive a person will be more successful, healthier, and happier than someone who is angry, fearful, or discouraged. Having a Pollyanna approach to life, as a positive thinker, really is the best way to live because it works to open the doors to the treasure house of every good and wonderful thing and experience. Spiritually intelligent people are positive thinkers, for they understand the creative power of thought. The mind is actually designed to reflect the spiritual world, but an uncontrolled mind can lead to a hellish existence, although Heaven is awaits a change of mind. Because we are creatures of habit, we have predominant patterns of thinking, feeling, imagining, speaking, and behaving. These habits cause us to attract and repel like a magnet. We would all like to have a magnetic personality and attract loving and generous people to us and we can, by using our creative tools to become the person we desire to be. The same system hold true for every aspect of our lives including gifts, prizes, trips, prospering situations, and spiritually transforming experiences. Right now each of us is creating our destiny, and thus attracting and repelling according to what we think, feel, and believe. A wise saying goes: Unless you change your direction, you are liable to end up where you are headed. A person who thinks and thus believes, “I am lucky,” always finds a way to be a winner in every situation; whereas, a person who believes they are unfortunate will find a way to be a loser in every situation. A friend of mine, who worked in an automobile agency, told me about one of his coworkers. Every morning the coworker would check the coin return in the coke machine, and if he found money there, he would say, “Today, is my lucky day and would sell two or more cars that day.” After a while, the smart manager would put money in the coin return and the man would find the money and say, “Today is my lucky day and he would sell two or more cars.” On the other “unlucky days,” he didn’t sell any cars. You may be thinking, “Yes, but, some people actually have won the lottery, prizes, and such and others have lost their jobs, mate, house, etc., so how can you say good and bad luck are the result of one’s perception?” Right perception makes the difference between a loss or a gain. For example, losing a job seen in the right fortunate way means the universe is kicking you out of one situation because there is a much better position for you somewhere else. Perhaps it is time to become an entrepreneur instead of depending upon a big corporation, which always has the power to dump you. This may be your opportunity to do what you love and prosper from it. If you hadn’t lost the job, you might have just remained there, because you were afraid to venture out, and now you are free to do whatever you have always wanted to do. With this attitude of good fortune you will be enthused and fired up to live the life you have always dreamed of living by being your own boss, or working in a field that has always interested you. On the other hand, if the person is dejected and sees this as rejection and a loss, he or she may think. “I’ll never find another job, I will become penniless, be on the street, and lose my relationships.” With a negative and defeatist attitude the person will not even endeavor, because in his mind he is a loser, which is not true. You can’t get any better than being a child of God, now can you? With the attitude I am fortunate, good fortune will smile on you, and the doors of opulent opportunity will swing wide. Enter in and enjoy the blessings—God is blessings you!
