Dream Interpretation
By Michele Avanti
Another client said she had a very disturbing dream where she was very angry and stabbing a pig until she killed it. This woman, who likes animals, was very upset by her actions in the dream. I asked her what was disturbing in her life presently. She stated things were fine at home but terrible at work. I asked if her boss was the problem. She said he was. I asked her what she called him behind his back. She said he was a big, fat pig. I explained to her this is who she was killing in the dream. She realized this was true. In this dream it is very clear why this woman’s mental censor would not allow her to use the image of her boss. Instead she used the symbol of a pig which was reflected from the words she chose to call him.
The censor uses symbols to keep us from doing, seeing or saying anything that does not fit into our regular pattern of social conscience. Therefore we have symbolic dreams to help us release stress while not distressing us with behavior that shocks our systems.
There are many types of symbolic dreams too vast to engage in this article. But the important point I wish to make is that you alone have the key to your symbols. Everyone on the planet shares only a handful of symbols in common. Then each culture defines some and then each individual psyche completes the process. To give you a quick example of this let’s consider the color red. In America red is the color we use on stop signs. When we get angry we say we see red. Therefore our culture defines red as a warning, a stop an anger issue. Here we would not consider getting married in a red gown! Yet in China, red is the color of luck while white is the color of death. So someone who is Chinese will marry in red and in their dreams red symbolizes good fortune.
Lucid dreams are very obvious and once someone puts their attention on interpreting their dreams they begin the path to the constant lucid dreamer. When you are experiencing a lucid dream, you may even realize your body is in bed asleep while you are journeying somewhere on the inner planes which the novice calls the dream world. The lucid dream is an experience outside of, or without the physical body. In these dreams every sensation can be felt and even though we may fly, move through walls or find ourselves watching someone who doesn’t look like we do now, we still recognize that we are who we are watching. Because of the levels of the inner planes and construction of this universe we as soul call home, we have the ability to experience past lives, future lives and current or past experiences of this life. All of these are important as we grow and need to release old emotional imprints that hold us back or to integrate knowledge from other lives or to pay or receive the payment on a karmic debt. Therefore there are many types of lucid dreams.
Here are some tools to understand your dreams and to remember them clearly. Remember, be patient.
1. Keep a dream diary. Place a note pad and pen near your bed. Before going to sleep, say to yourself; “I will remember my dreams when I wake up.” Feel the joyful emotion of gratitude as you say it. You might also add: “ Thank you creator for helping me through my dreams and teaching what they mean.”
2. When you wake up, ask yourself what do I remember of my dreams. Look for feelings, colors, movement, a name or a word to get you started on the recall track. Don’t get frustrated if you don’t recall at first. Give it a few days time and you will begin to remember something.
3. As you remember, open your book and jot down significant words at the top of individual pages. For example: ‘Red’ might appear on the top of one page and ‘Car’ on the top of another. Even if you recall the whole sequence of the dream, break it up into significant words and write them at the top of each page.
4. After completing that, go to the first page and look at the word. Ask yourself; “What does this word mean to me.” The very first thing or feeling that comes to mind is a true indication of how you respond to that word. Jot it down and continue through all the words in this manner.
5. Now you are ready to piece it together. By looking at the meanings of each part you will come to understand what the censor in your brain is hiding from you. Over a period of time, you will instantly know what each word means and eventually the censor will stop and you will become a constant lucid dreamer.
Remember you are soul and as such your divine self is constantly trying to help you maneuver efficiently on the Earth plane. When you adopt an understanding of this statement, you will realize your dreams are often the key method that soul uses to communicate with your physical, conscious self.
The more that you learn about who you really are and the more you learn to trust who you really are, the easier life becomes.
