Dream Interpretation
By Michele Avanti
Everyone dreams and since ancient times dream interpretation has journeyed through highs and lows. In ancient Greece there were dream temples and dreams were considered communication from the gods. Through dreams the gods answered questions, warned of danger, prophesied the future and gave instructions for medicinal care.
Today people still ask questions and wonder about their dreams. Why? Because everyone dreams and most people dream in enigmatic ways. Let’s take a look at the types of dreams, how we dream, how you can dream more clearly and how you can learn to interpret your own dreams.
TYPES OF DREAMS
1. Symbolic Dreams are the dreams with larger than life characters and situations that do not fit your idea of reality.
2. Lucid Dreams are dreams that feel real in every way and are in full color. These include astral dreaming, soul travel and karmic dreams of the past or future.
3. Prophetic Dreams warn you of the future and they may be symbolic or lucid.
4. Recurring Dreams can be symbolic, lucid, and may also be prophetic. On my list of importance these come first because your higher self is diligently trying to communicate something to you, that is why they recur. Each of these areas of dreams overlap. So none can be defined totally independent of the others.
The first question I ask when a client comes to me for dream interpretation is: “How real was your dream? Was it in full color? Could you feel the wind, hear the sounds of birds, smell the scents of the room, feel sensations on your skin?” The answers to these questions will help determine if the dream was symbolic or lucid. These are the first areas of dreams that need to be defined before going further to interpret the dream.
When we are having a symbolic dream often times it is not in full color. It does not include all the sensations of the five senses but will include some odd and unusual things.
Many years ago a client came to me and described a dream where a coworker came up to her and threw black pepper in her face. She was shocked by the dream and woke up. When she related this dream to me, she said it was in full color but she could not understand why this friend had thrown pepper at her. I immediately asked her what pepper meant to her. After a few seconds she said it was bad stuff. I asked her what was happening at work that was bad concerning her. She said there was a rumor going around at work about her. She didn’t know who started it. I told her the dream was giving her the answer. Then she completely understood the dream. Her higher consciousness was showing her this person she thought her friend was throwing negative or harmful words at her.
