AN INTERVIEW WITH 
DR. DAVID R. HAWKINS

Dr. Hawkins: I see the world as a maximum karmic opportunity to evolve. In our world you have the strata of humanity, from the lowest (people who calibrate at 40) to the highest (people in the high 500’s). The purpose of any incarnation is to maximize a karmic opportunity.

KB: Do you believe that a person needs to be aware of their karma or is it enough to be faithful to the task at hand?

Dr. Hawkins: No, most people are not aware of their own karma. In fact, most people in the Western world don’t even believe in karma. It has to do with the fact that from moment to moment what decides karma is the spiritual will. It is the spiritual will that sets the compass on the ship. So, it is not the waves that come and go that matter, but rather the integrity of the spiritual principles to which you are aligned.

KB: There are many doomsday advocates predicting that we are in the end times. What do you foresee happening in the world, let’s say, over the next ten years?

Dr. Hawkins: One of the qualities of human consciousness is its ability to evolve. As it does, we experience cultural shifts where what was bad now becomes good. I foresee cultural clashes and contentiousness as an automatic.

KB: Do you see America remaining strong as a nation?

Dr. Hawkins: Right now, America calibrates higher than any other country on Earth. Although everybody vilifies us, quite frankly, they still look to us.

KB: Where does America calibrate?

Dr. Hawkins: Four hundred and twenty-one. That is reason, rationality and education. What we value in America is inventiveness, self-reliance, reliability. The four hundreds are the scientific paradigms. That means currently we look to science for salvation. In the old days we looked to the Church for salvation, but that didn’t work. Now, we have to look to science to cure AIDS and not the Church.

KB: What countries calibrates closest to America?
