POWER VS. FORCE…
AN INTERVIEW WITH
DR. DAVID R. HAWKINS
KB: In a quote from, I, Reality and Subjectivity, you state, “it is important as a foundation to spiritual training and education to learn how consciousness manifests as the ego and its mechanisms.” But I don’t think the average person understands how the ego operates…
Dr. Hawkins: No, they don’t. I didn’t cover that until the book I’m finishing now in which I track the evolution of the ego throughout time. Its origination is when the energy of Divinity interacts with matter, if conditions are appropriate, and then consciousness spawns life. Life in its beginning is selfish. The core of that life energy is survival. In order to survive it has to get. The core of the ego is to get because it doesn’t have a source of energy within itself. The quality of the ego is primarily self-interest, up to consciousness level 200. At 200 there is a major change from selfishness to altruism.
KB: You say that at this point the average human being is calibrating at 207?
Dr. Hawkins: Happily mankind is now at 207, but that didn’t happen until the late 1980’s when it went from the 190’s to 205.
KB: Dr. Hawkins, what do you see as being responsible for the increase?
Dr. Hawkins: Nothing was responsible outside of the evolution of consciousness. I saw it myself as the promised Second Coming of the Christ Consciousness. The consciousness of truth now prevails in mankind. Last November it went from 205 to 207. A whole new paradigm of reality is beginning to prevail, where integrity instead of success is the new signpost of achievement.
KB: Let’s talk about Love for a minute. Where does Love calibrate?
Dr. Hawkins: Five hundred.
KB: Five hundred! That is so surprising…we have so much to look forward to!
Dr. Hawkins: That’s true. The paradigm is like this: the four hundreds are the world of the intellect, the Newtonian paradigm of cause and effect, the theory of evolution, and mathematics. That’s all dualistic. Once you get to the five hundreds you enter a new paradigm of subjectivity because love is not provable. Now the important things in reality become subjective, shifting from cause and effect to a paradigm where what is spiritual is significant. Here, Love is still pretty much me/you, and conditional. At five hundred forty, Love becomes unconditional. The levels beyond the high five hundreds are called Sainthood.
KB: You have stated, “Simple kindness, to oneself and all that lives, is the most powerful, transformational force of all.” Would you give me some examples of what you mean by ‘simple kindnesses’?
Dr. Hawkins: People try to make spirituality complicated. Yet, it is a very simple thing: goodwill towards all of life, being kind to yourself and others, being forgiving, and seeing the beauty of all that exists. It is important to see the simple things because the ego is built of bricks. Once you remove one or two bricks the whole wall comes falling down. You don’t have to go to an ashram for three months and eat figs. Just the willingness in ordinary life to be kind and forgiving and compassionate is enough.
KB: You’ve said, “…the world is neither good nor bad, nor is it in need of help or modification because it’s appearance is only a projection of one’s own mind. No such world exists.” If no such world exists, what is the meaning of life?
