Recently I caught and episode of “Charmed” and I must say, I’ve been hooked ever since. For those who are unaware of the show it is about a family of sisters who are “witches” that practice magic in the Wiccan tradition. The premise is the ancient old battle of Good vs Evil, the vanquishing of demons, (both internally and externally), and the protection of the “innocent”.
It is about three sisters learning that they come from a long line of witches and their destiny is to make the world a safer place.
There are many lessons found within Charmed and I am drawn into the dynamics of the family. There is Piper, the practical one who wants a normal life with her “White Lighter” protector/guide husband and one of her powers allows her to freeze objects, people and some demons. Phoebie is the middle sister who gets visions – especially when touching someone or something and she can be a wee bit rebellious. Then there’s the newest sister, Page, who is half White Lighter. She can Orb, (disappear and reappear) and bring objects to her. She wants to gain more insight into her powers and be able to use them all the time.
Overall the sisters are a force to be reckoned with and what I love about the show is how their lives interweave with life.
They fight with each other; they support each other; they work as a team and together, as the power of three, their powers create a vortex for good. There are times when they find themselves having to face the dark side alone…sometimes the results are not in their favor and it always works out, especially when they work together.
Through spells and charms, through learning to handle their gifts in a world of “innocents” and being guided by the “Good” guys and the spirits on the other side, they meld into a powerful faction for good. They have also leaned that when they use magic for their own gain there are consequences for their actions.
As I continue to be intrigued with the show, I am reminded that we are in a world of diversity. Like the three sisters, together they become more powerful and they each bring to the table their own elements of expertise. They too have egos and want it their way; yet in the end they find common ground in which to accomplish their goals.
We can all learn from this show; we can become a unified force in our “vanquishing of demons,” figuratively and literally. There is a magic in the world and each of us bring to the table our own unique form of magic.
What do we have to offer this world? Only ourselves, our integrity and our hearts. We are warriors, we are the peacemakers, and we are the only ones that can make this world a better place.
So whether you believe in the Harry Potters of the world, or the Charmed Ones, it matters not…for you are the Magician of your destiny. Together, with your inner strengths (powers) we can make a difference.
As the veil between the world thins, may we all come to understand that we are all in this…together.
