My dear friends, What a wonderful time to say, “thank you” for all the lives you touch in the course of a day. Do you remember, “It’s a Wonderful Life” with James Stewart? If you haven’t seen it for a while, I would recommend you revisit this lesson riveted classic. If you recall, it was a time when this young man, George, (James Stewart) was on the verge of losing his family’s business and everything he held sacred. When he wished to never have been born, God sent Clarence, an angel working to earn his wings. As the story goes, Clarence granted George his request and soon he found himself “unknown” in his home town. What an awakening. The people whose lives he had touched while alive were all altered. The town he grew up in became “Pottersville” … after the not-so-savory character, Mr. Potter. And this was all because George was not around to make a difference. Of course the story has a happy ending when George realizes his role in the lives of his community … and he saves the day as he calls upon God to allow him to live. He does, and “Pottersville” returns back to that quaint, innocent town that he grew up in. The End! The messages are clear. Although we may have challenges and our world Is turned upside down, we still have an important role to play in our corner of the world. We do make a difference — at whatever level we reside upon. The other lesson is that when we ask for help it is given — maybe not in the form we expected, but given nevertheless. In this case it was an angel helping George realize his importance and in turn George was able to help the angel Clarence earn his wings…a partnership where everyone wins. I could go on; however, I think the message is clear — we are all touching one another’s lives…who we are Does Make A Difference. Let us all stand tall, hand-in-hand, shoulder-to-shoulder, in love, compassion and understanding.
