![]() HEAD, NECK & FACIAL PAIN A NEW PERSPECTIVE By Susan Yennerell Billions of dollars are spent each year on aspirin and Ibuprofen. The nation has been led to believe that drugs heal, however at best pain relief medications only cover-up symptoms. Our bodies need to experience symptoms to communicate that something is wrong. When drugs mess with the line of communication that something is out of alignment, emotionally deprived or chemically out of balance the message that "something is wrong" gets muffled or goes completely unheard by our brain. We have all heard of at least one story of someone who just dropped dead ? the person was in perfect health and had not shown any symptoms that they were ill. If we were able to go back and interview these people we would find that a large majority of these people did have symptoms, but didn’t think their symptoms were bad enough or worth the money to be treated. Many have been told by more than one physician that the pain they experience "is in their head" or psychological. Pain is Biochemical, Emotional and Structural. Though all of these affect the body, seldom are all three affected equally. In brief, Biochemical Pain can be defined by our environment, allergies, nutrition and process of toxins. Emotional Pain can be defined by our body’s ability to process stress of lifestyle, spiritual being, relationships and past baggage. Structural Pain can be defined by an imbalance of our body’s muscles, bones and organs. Each of these three categories takes longer than the traditional fifteen minute exam to be diagnosed. The one component that nearly impacts all of us is Structural Pain. Years of just living ? sport injuries, auto accidents, poor nutrition, etc. will give us structural weak spots. According to Dr. Michael Bell, DDS., you must look at the whole body in relationship to the oral condition. At least 80% of his chronic headache and pain patients have structural issues in their bite or jaw joints due to muscle imbalances. Many problems such as tooth wear and decay, unstable bite, poor fitting, shifting of the teeth, or poor fitting dentures are the result of problems with posture or structure of the body and muscle alignment. There are 63 pairs of muscles that are used to open and close your mouth. If a muscle or pairs of muscles are overloaded or out of balance the muscles will send referred pain to other parts of the body. It is as if the imbalance is a car in a traffic jam looking for an alternate route home. Referred pain can be experienced by feeling pain around or behind the eyes, swallowing difficulties, coughing, throat pain, headaches, painful scalp, buzzing ear, vertigo, jaw clicking, shoulder pain, neck pain and referred pain down the arms, back and legs. Learning disability, dizziness, low energy and generalized fatigue can also be experienced due to an overload of pain symptoms. Other symptoms have been reported as limited movement of joints, change in blood pressure, low temperature, cold hands and feet and clumsiness in finger dexterity. Not all of us feel pain due to our adaptive capacity. When we are young our bodies are able to handle more until there is a breakdown in our bodies that start the domino effect. You may or may not feel symptoms but this doesn’t mean you are healthy. Health is taking care of our biochemical, emotional and structural being before problems start. Do you have headaches and body pains? If so, discover the source and begin the journey of total health. For additional information call 702-256-3621, The Bell Center, Las Vegas, Nev. |
