By Aluna Joy Yaxk’in On the other hand I know an amazing woman who was ten years older than my mother and she had an open mind. She came to Mexico with one of my groups and climbed all over the pyramids with us. Her vocabulary didn’t included "I can’t" and just being in her presence we felt more alive. This women even healed herself of cancer just by changing her mind about it. She was an inspiration to all of us and especially me. Somehow she knew how to live open and conscious, not living mechanically by past experiences. She did not limit her possibilities to new paths in life. Some will take mechanicity to the extreme. Mechanicity is usually conformed to out of the need to be comfortable. A man I knew was afraid to tell the truth because it meant he would have to face himself and open to other possibilities. His daily routines were incredibly rigid and because of this his life was limited and did not allow for anything new to show up. In relationships he spun glossy stories and played psychological games using spiritual concepts to justify his life. It was the first time I witnessed someone that used spiritual concepts to keep himself asleep! In the 40+ years he never had a relationship that lasted over six months. None of his closest friends really knew the truth about who he was or what was really going on in his life.
If life does not give us enough boundaries or limitations we may go out and look for more ways to limit ourselves. Some even make a career out of it. For example. another person I knew used fear based propaganda to build a safe haven for himself. No matter if the conspiracy was true or not, it gave him reason to lock himself up and not live fully. Never mind his many talents and intelligence. He was so afraid of making a mistake that he built an impenetrable cage around himself. The idea of choice, living consciously and empowered became so overwhelmingly fearful that he literally became the walking dead while thinking he was breaking boundaries by believing in controversial subjects.
