Interview with
The Angel Lady,
Dr. Doreen Virtue

Dr. Doreen Virtue is a spiritual psychologist who holds BA, MA, and Ph.D. degrees in Counseling Psychology. She is the bestselling author of 22 books including: Angel Visions, Angel Therapy and Connecting with Your Angels. She has been seen on many major TV shows including: Oprah, CNN, and Barbara Walters.
Doreen has actively worked to advance understanding and treatment of women's psychological issues. She is the founder of WomanKind Psychiatric Hospital at Cumberland Hall Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.
Dr. Virtue began her life as a natural clairvoyant and clairaudient (one who has the ability to see, hear and converse with beings who are not in physical bodies) As a child, this gift was misunderstood and the beings that Doreen saw were tagged "imaginary." Thus Doreen learned to deny her abilities and shut them down instead of being taught to appreciate and expand them.
On July 15, 1995, Doreen's life would change forever when one so-called "imaginary friend" warned her that her car would be stolen and exactly how to avoid this painful experience. Unfortunately, Doreen chose to ignore the warning. What happened next was exactly what the angel had told her! Doreen found herself face to face with two armed men who physically attacked her and attempted to steal her car. The angel did not abandon Doreen. Instead it told her what to do and saved her life. This miracle brought Doreen out of the angel closet.
Dr. Doreen Virtue immediately began to practice listening to her Angelic Guidance. She began a meticulous re-examination of her life, her beliefs and started researching everything she could find about communication between the physical and unseen realms.
Through the practice of listening to her angels, Doreen's natural clairvoyance returned and her view of psychology took on a whole new perspective.
Today Dr. Virtue combines her skills as a Doctor of Psychology with her spiritual abilities. Doreen teaches others that everyone is born with differing degrees of psychic awareness and all can cultivate these abilities through the practice of listening and trust. She cites over three hundred scientific studies from Harvard, Cornell, and other leading universities which prove that people are naturally psychic and that prayer has healing power.

MA: Tell me about experiences you had as a child. Anything significant you remember?
DV: My main memory was that I would see people all the time who I thought were living people because they didn't look any different than us, except they were strangers and they wouldn't talk. They would just be there and stare. I think they were earthbound. It's really kind of bizarre because as you know, the spirit world is so many different levels. I interact with all of them but I don't talk about all of them because it's so threatening to some people. I have had encounters with them all my life, all of them. They made it very clear to me-the angelic realm and the Ascended Masters realm that I had signed up for a mission.
When I was eight years old I had an out-of-body experience, and didn't know what that was at that time. I mean I had never heard of it. It wasn't until years later that I understood. I was walking and all of a sudden I was outside my body looking at my body… and, I was kind of frozen. Then I heard this male voice-the same one who would warn me about the carjacking, say: "This is what you are here to teach, the separation of mind and body that you are experiencing now." Then I was back in my body. I thought…well okay…the whole phrase didn't mean a darn thing to me. It was so irrelevant to my life.
Then, throughout my life, they kept reminding me that my mission was to teach about life after death and spirituality. I now understand it because of where we are going. We absolutely have to have people loose the fear of death. That's really holding us back as a group process. So there's only a few of us. John Edwards is definitely one of the lightworkers involved with this and myself. We've all been placed where we are and all of us are just perfectly in place as teachers who are opening doors in terms of helping folks to lose their fears so that we can live the new age of peace.
MA: Looking at this out-of-body experience you had at age eight, wasn't it significant for you, even though you didn't completely understand everything that would come later on in life?
DV: It didn't make any sense to me at all. By that time, I had learned you don't talk about this stuff. I was going to a Unity Sunday school, so I was being raised metaphysically. But Unity, Christian Science, Divine Science, and Religious Science, the new thought tradition I was being raised in, did not acknowledge life after death, did not acknowledge spirit guides or angels.
MA: Oh that's fascinating, I didn't know that.
 DV: Christian Science talks about angels a bit, but almost metaphorically. Kind of like, "angels surround you." Like A Course in Miracles has passing references to angels; unlike my friends who were raised Catholics. They were raised believing in miracles, like saints, sages and angels. In Christian Science and Unity, the miracles were focused on physical healings and synchronicities. I didn't have any contact with out-of-body experiences or life after death. It really was like paddling in the ocean by myself. I could just keep my head above water.
The angels at that time appeared to me more as twinkling angel lights. I'm sure you've seen them, where they flash out of the corner of your eye. They could look like a sparkler or look like a popping light bulb being burnt out. And then this other worldly silence would accompany it. I would feel like I fell into a black hole or a different dimension. There was this sense of comfort…I could always hear these guides around me comforting me.
Like most of us lightworkers I was highly sensitive as a child-it seemed like the kids were always picking on me. I always felt different. The angels were there to comfort me.
MA: It is interesting you choose a childhood pathway where you would be picked on and thus give you a distinct advantage in the kind of work you would do as psychologist.
DV: Yes. Well it certainly taught me compassion. It taught me tolerance and non-judgment. So, I strive my best to live an egoless life without being a martyr. I'm not into self-denial. I don't think God wants us to deny ourselves.
MA: I agree with you. I think God provided a world of abundance for us to choose whatever we want to do with it.
DV: Exactly. It's okay to be comfortable. On the other hand, it's so important to me to always, always give all glory to God. And that includes the part of me that is God. The God that is in me, but not give glory to my ego.
MA: I always try to refer to myself as a conduit. I have this cute saying I tell my students; "what we are is just these fancy Ferrari's - we're vehicles for the Spiritual Beings to use."
DV: You've got that right. We have this illusion that we're in charge. We're just spiritual puppets.
MA: Yes, we have the same outlook. Let me ask this question. Considering what you were taught as a child, what would you say were your key lessons and what did you learn that inspired you?
DV: Well, I think my parents taught me my initial important lessons because they are metaphysicians in the new thought tradition.
Dad would take things and hide them around the house. This is a game we would play instead of going out and shooting hoops. He would say, "Use your gut, tune in and find it that way." So he was teaching us intuition and telepathy at a very, very young age.
He also taught us manifesting because he had quit his high paying corporate job to stay home and create the life of his dreams. He has a passion for model airplanes and his passion was to write books and articles and plans about them. So he created his home based business. Right after this our car fell apart, so we needed a car. He taught my brother and I manifesting, so we could all pool our minds together and create a car.
Dad went out and bought a hot wheels toy representing the car he wanted to manifest. Then he painted it a shade of brown. The color he wanted. Then, when it was all dry, he put it on top of the TV set and had my little brother Ken and I and my mom sit in front of it. He had us focus on this model car and visualize it being full size in the driveway, in the here and now. He taught me that visualization is just a minor part of manifesting. You have to use all your senses. So we could feel ourselves sitting in the seats. We could smell the new car smell. We could hear that roar of the Pinto engine and feel the lines. All the senses were involved. Oh, and most important, that it was paid for in full, because my parents don't use credit. And that it was right now, as opposed to in the future. So we did all this and bim, bong, bing! There was the car within a few weeks. It wasn't like a sky hook dropped it on our driveway. Rather my dad got extra work because of the manifesting process. Extra work related to his passion, he didn't have to compromise.
So, I've been using that method my whole life; in my health, in my career, getting published, my degrees, my relationship with my kids, my love life, all that. I just get a physical anchor or at least a really good picture of what it is I'm asking for-after praying, because you have to be careful what you're asking for. And then use all my senses and affirm it in the here and now with all my gratitude. I teach that to people because again, we suffer so needlessly. It's so unwise and unnecessary to suffer when this is an abundant universe. Suffering doesn't serve anyone. It doesn't make you any more spiritual if you are broke. In fact, it can make you more obsessed with money and it can get in the way of fulfilling your purpose. So God and the angels, I am convinced, want money to be a nonissue for us. Just something we don't even have to worry about. We know there is enough. And so that was an important lesson.
The other lesson was that the body and all matter is pliable; it's a hologram. Whatever we decide, is what we're going to experience with it. I haven't gone to doctors or even alternative practitioners. I have not needed to and just by deciding I haven't got time for the pain.
MA: That's awesome.
DV: Yeah, I think it's all about how you use your time. Do you use it wisely while you're here? And that was a really early lesson, that we are immortal, there is no such thing as death. But in this illusion, there is a finite window of time you're going to be here and how are you going to spend it? Are you going to spend it, "woe is me, in misery?" Or are you going to spend it in service? And if you're going to spend it in service, my gosh, get the money issues, health issues, love life issues out of the way. Fix them for heavens sake, so you don't have to think about them anymore. And then you can enjoy your life while you benefit the world by your presence.
MA: That's great, the way you learned that. You're dad is
incredible. Coming into present time, could you define for us what
angels are to you?
DV: Well angels are anyone who helps us. So it's a verb. It can be anyone from a kind stranger to your kitty cat who makes you feel loved, to the winged ones who have never lived as a human before. They may have lived as incarnated angels which definitely exist. But they have not lived as a human with a human ego. But the other angels around you include our spirit guides. People who have passed on that we know. Usually someone who is a relative is the most common. It could be a pet who has passed on. It can be someone from a past life or it could be a teacher that you have attracted; not an Ascended Master, but maybe a Native American because your mission involves some healing work. And Ascended Masters would be the third level of angels around us. That would include most commonly Jesus. Mary, I see around a lot of people. The Saints come up a lot. People of Jewish orientation very often have Moses with them or someone great who has lived as a teacher. Yogananda I see around quite a few people and also
QuanYin.
MA: Your view of angels helps expand everyone's view and it helps them to understand there are many, many levels we work with.
DV: I liken it to a television set with channel 2, channel 4, channel 7 and there are different frequencies but they are next to each other.
MA: What is the most important thing anyone can do so they can know and hear their angels?
DV: The most important thing to do is to pay attention to patterns. Things that come to you especially in threes. That would include anything that you feel, think, hear or see with your physical senses or spiritual senses. Perhaps a song that you hear over and over, and it's not Brittany Spears. And you have to pay attention to the lyrics. One that would be unusual to be on the radio three times and that would be unusual for you to hear it.
I was writing a book about food cravings a few years ago and I was toying with the idea of calling it "Constant Cravings", but I wasn't sure. Then I kept hearing that song over and over and over. So I finally said okay, I'll call it, Constant Cravings. I receive many letters from people whose loved one have passed on saying that they hear their song. A special song and they know it's a message from that person.
Also people should pay attention to seeing number sequences which appear frequently in patterns. As well as when they have the same thought or feeling over and over again to do something.
MA: These are all ways the spiritual beings connect with us. I call them the spiritual beings.
DV: They call themselves, sometimes the "high vibrating beings."
MA: Seeing angels should be a warming experience, is that true?
DV: From the letters I get, people who see deceased loved ones, Ascended Masters or angels, all report the same thing. That they are not frightened. That they feel a sense of warm love enveloping them and that they receive a happy message, even if it's a warning. That, they feel safe when they're getting the message and they feel comforted.
MA: I think it's important to get that across because I think people shut down their ability to see due to their fears.
DV: Oh, big time. Yeah, that's what I teach in my workshops-how to lose those fears. We are naturally clairvoyant and clairaudient. If it were not for the fears, we would all be very, very psychic right now.
MA: When we consider the issues of greed, hunger, oppression and destruction on this planet, what perspective do the angels wish to give us concerning these matters?
DV: That peace begins with each individual. It's not that we say if the world would change then I'd be happy. That's backwards. If we each take care of our own happiness, then we have a happy world. And not only that, we become the very best teachers through example rather than lecturing. Our light work does not take place in a classroom or when we write books. Our teaching occurs nonstop when we are in a bank, at a gas station or the post office. We are always either teaching peace or fear. That's why we have to be self-responsible and take the measures to take care of ourselves. Take care of our bodies too. Because the bodies are the vehicle, like you say, the Ferrari, that helps us with the mission. If we abuse the body or don't exercise it or put the proper nutrients in it, we're not going to last as long or have the energy to do our mission. Then when the shift occurs and we don't have access to the processed foods, a lot of people are going to go through withdrawals.
MA: That's interesting. I hadn't even considered that, because I don't operate in the processed food world.
DV: It's an addiction.
MA: I'm an anomaly to the rest of the world. But that's why people can't tell my age.
DV: Don't you feel like you're getting younger?
MA: And I believe we all are, aren't we?
DV: I think I look younger now than I did 10 years ago.
MA: I don't see any reason to age. It's just the social consciousness. We've all agreed we do age, so let's just all agree that we don't have to.
DV: It's a belief system, we don't have to buy into that.
MA: Considering your work with the angels, can you tell us what you see coming in terms of changes in our world?
DV: Oh some exciting changes! They show me that quantum physics is just now coming up with experiments that show when we wear watches and pay attention to calendars we limit ourselves very much. We limit ourselves to be in only one time and one place. And within the next twenty years we won't be wearing watches. And we're already starting to see that sensitive people are heeding this.
MA: This is so hysterical to me. I've never been allowed to wear a watch. The spiritual beings always get me to appointments at exactly the right time. Additionally, living outside of time and space, I've had experiences where time has been collapsed or expanded as necessary to get a job done.
What else have the angels indicated to you about upcoming changes?
DV: The internet and email is a precursor to us becoming telepathic. It's giving us a taste of instant and efficient communication. Because, as you know, talking and reading are closing and slow. And, we used to be telepathic beings in Lemuria. There are all these telepathic studies which I go over in my workshops. They're fascinating studies. As we let go of time, we allow miracles to occur. And as we let go of time and space, the next step that happens is we can't lie to each other anymore, because we can read each others minds. So when the age of dishonesty begins passing, the institutions that are built on a foundation of dishonesty will necessarily fall. That includes the educational system, the judicial system, the political system and the legal system. A lot of media and many big businesses will have to change or go, and that will seem like a crisis to a lot of people. It will create lots of chaos for those who do not go with the flow, people who fight change.
But the rest of us who are hip to this will already be manifesting whatever we need. Our bodies will be adjusted to eating fruits and vegetables and many people are becoming breatharians, where they get their prana from the air. And if you get hungry for something, you will be able to manifest it, attract it or find it.
So, they're showing me that these changes are going to create a bit of a division. There's going to be this panic stricken part of society that's really stuck in the illusion nature, and it will seem like a traumatic illusion. Then the rest of us are going to say, "Hooray! Ding, dong the witch is dead!"
The most important part of this change will be the children getting away from this archaic school system. The new Indigo children are suffering because they're being lied to all the time and they can't handle lies. So they act out and then they're mislabeled ADD, ADHT and put on Ritalin.
MA: This is a real crisis in this country and will be great when we get it resolved. Lastly we have been hearing about the shift for some time. Can you tell us a little more about this and perhaps give us a clearer time frame?
DV: Well I, like most of the prophecies, have come up with 2011 to 2013 as very important years where we will make a leap into being more natural. That's what we're doing is becoming more natural. I know it seems like a very short distance from here. But the angels say everything is speeding up so quickly. The leaps we're making and the lessons, and not just the lessons but the mistakes we're making which we're learning lessons from; they're all coming so rapidly. The government is going to be dismantled and we must not fear this because it's going to be replaced with more localized government. This will improve conditions because we will no longer be giving our power to some far away location.
A Course in Miracles says that a universal theology is impossible but, a universal experience is not only possible, it's necessary. So what it seems is going to happen, will be a big divine intervention for everybody. It will wake us all up to the oneness that we are. It could be benevolent ETs landing to get our attention. Or it could be just each of us having divine revelations synchronistically.
