Oxygen Crisis… Are We At Risk?

Charlene Holland

Did you know 90% of our biological energy comes from oxygen and only 10% from food and water. Also, oxygen deficiency has been determined to be a direct link to illness and aging.

“Lack of oxygen clearly plays a major role in causing cells to become cancerous,”

Dr. Harry Goldblatt
Journal of Experimental Medicine.

Some symptoms of oxygen deficiency often overlooked include:

circulation and digestive disorders, fatigue, headaches
•    muscle or tendon pain
•    skin disorders, depression memory loss, excessive colds and infections, sleep
disorders, weakened immune system

Research has found people most at risk for oxygen deficiency include:

The elderly
Smokers
Living at high altitudes
Frequent airplane travelers
Heavy exercisers
Having high stress lives and jobs
Workers in sealed buildings
Participating in sports activities
Those who work excessive hours
Living in highly polluted cities
Having frequent work schedule changes from day to night
Traveling across time zones

When we breathe, unfortunately we are not getting enough oxygen. Currently our atmospheric oxygen content is approximately 21% when just a few hundred years ago the air was as high as 35% oxygen content. Although atmospheric oxygen decline is being caused by toxic gases and pollutants, it is not the only cause of oxygen deficiency. Today’s lifestyle has a detrimental effect on oxygen reserves.

Over processed foods are high in TOXINS and low in oxygen. Eating these foods forces the body to use large amounts of oxygen to eliminate the poisons. These foods include: white flour, sugar, alcohol, coffee, colas, etc. Foods rich in oxygen supply are fresh fruits and vegetables.

Lack of exercise prevents the body from absorbing the oxygen needed to revitalize the systems. Not having proper rest prevents oxygen from regenerating the organs, cells, and muscles. Physical stress, caused by infections and viruses, creates the need for the body to use more oxygen to fight off illnesses. Emotional stress also places strain on all major organs and systems of the body. Aging creates an oxygen deficit of 5% to 10% per decade between the ages of 25‑75.

“Insufficient oxygen means insufficient energy that can result in anything from mild fatigue to life threatening disease.”

Dr. W. Spencer Way
Journal of American Association of Physicians.

What can we do to get more oxygen?

To start with, consume more unprocessed foods, exercise on a regular basis, and get sufficient rest. Practicing breathing exercises, meditation and other mindful relaxation techniques would be even better. Lobby for and create a nontoxic environment at home, at work, and on our planet.

What about utilizing some of the latest technology for oxygen therapy? The mild Hyperbaric Oxygen chamber uses purified ambient air under pressure to increase the oxygen uptake in the body. This is not the same as ENRICHED oxygen that you find at local 02 bars. That treatment is known as Hyperoxia, or increased oxygen. The main difference between Hyperoxia and Hyperbaria is in the 02 and carbon dioxide levels of the blood flow to the brain. Hyperoxia actually lowers brain blood flow as well as oxygen use. Hyperbaria increases 02 uptake by pressurized ambient air, pure air, which is what the Hyperbaric chamber provides.

There are no known side effects or toxicity with the Hyperbaric treatment. The affects are cumulative, and show longer lasting benefits over time. Hyperbaria therapy has been tested and researched in the United States over the last 25 years. Scientists, researchers, doctors, and other health professionals have reported benefits of increased oxygen uptake. Mild Hyperbaric therapy benefits includes, accelerated healing time, increased circulation and metabolism (resulting in body fat loss), relief from headaches, increased energy and stamina, improvement of memory, rapid fatigue recovery, destroys parasites and infectious bacteria, increases respiratory capacity, helps neutralize environmental toxins, displaces free radicals, improves the brain’s function, stabilizes the nervous system, aids in sleep disorders, and improves mood and general well being.

Hyperbaric therapy is intended to enhance, not replace any drug or treatment program prescribed or recommended by a physician or health professional. As with most alternative therapy, it is advised you consult your health professional before undergoing any treatment.

“AII chronic pain, suffering and diseases are caused from a lack of oxygen at the cellular level.” Arthur C. Guyton, M.D., textbook on Meclical Physiology.

Oxygen therapy treatment was once only available to elite professional and olympic athletes, and through medical facilities for various illness and disorders. Lucky for us it is now available at various health and wellness centers, local day spas and even for our own personal use at home. Receiving treatments through the hyperbaric oxygen chamber provides a safe, highly effective method for recovery of the most essential nutrient of the body… OXYGEN. There are many different modalities of oxygen treatment and they all serve a purpose.

Remember, oxygen is essential to a healthy life. Let us all breathe easier!
