| Dreams by Barbara Vonn All throughout the centuries, dreams have found the path to our minds. Topics are wide and varied. There are mysterious messages, warnings of impending danger, future events, even winning lotto numbers. Some people claim they never dream, while others profess to having several dreams in a single night. Memory is a vital link, since dreams happen late at night during deep phases of sleep. A frightening dream experience can result in waking up with a jolt. Startling dreams of this sort are likely to be remembered. The calmer, non-threatening episodes are the ones we tend to forget. Unless we wake up there is little chance of recalling the dream the following day. A ringing alarm clock can be an asset because the early morning dreams are easier to remember. Dreams come in an array of types. For example, a dream, of several family members at a festive time of the year, would indicate a family gathering at a future date. This type dream can be called a futuristic dream. Another type is the warning dream. In this setting a dream typically provides a few details indicative of a mishap in some form. Warnings can help prevent accidents. Then there are the dreams containing symbols. By definition, symbols represent or suggest other things than what are seen in the actual dream. Symbol type dreams are not only the most common, but also the most puzzling to understand. Although symbols have been around for centuries, the hidden meanings are still perplexing. A good number of books have been published to aid people in defining the meanings. However, symbols, like colors, can have more than one clarification. For example, if a dream contains a whale, then two distinctions are readily possible. A whale can represent deep water or a big problem. The remaining segments of the dream pull together like a jigsaw puzzle. When all the segments are put in place, the symbols transpiring in the dream start to make sense. In addition to books on symbols, resources also include workshops on dreams and guidance by people who are gifted in dream interpretation. Dreams are sent to us for a very good reason. Life, as we know it, has many ups and downs. Any and all knowledge gained by dreaming has a definite purpose which is to provide guidance. The terms happiness, surprise, shock, sorrow and good fortune, to name a few, can all be enriched when preceded by a dream. To enjoy life to the fullest, one should always dream to the fullest. ¤ |
