Global Transformations

by Simon Hunt

A devastating explosion occurred on the Sun June 1," BBC Science Editor, Dr. David Whitehorse, tells us, "and for a few very nervous hours astronomers did not know whether it was heading for Earth."

"If the magnetic energy within the cloud of super hot gas had interacted with the Earth's magnetic field it would have sparked a spectacular aurora at polar latitudes, induced power blackouts, blocked radio communications, and triggered phantom electronic commands capable of sending satellites spinning out of their orbits and God knows what else. Cellular phones, global positioning signals, and a myriad of other technologies would have been affected, creating general havoc globally."

The explosive event was billed as "a real planet-buster," by Dr Richard Fisher, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center scientist. The possible consequences of the event were, in fact, so much of a planet-buster, that the news was not made public until almost a week after the event occurred.

Hmmm…

The Memorial Day holiday weekend, (May 29 -31) found our family camping up around the 9,000 foot level of the Sierra Nevada Desert. The nights were cold and the days were very chilly, unless, of course, you found yourself in the sun - it was scorching, literally. We found ourselves preferring to dress heavily and stick to the shade. "We're up pretty high and there's less atmosphere to filter the ultra violet rays and infra red radiation," I reasoned.

"That's not it. There's something wrong with the sun." Patti said.

"Oh, come on Sweetie…" I said looking up at the sky through the trees we were taking shelter under. "How could there be something wrong with the sun?"

"I don't know." She replied. "But there's something wrong with the sun."

Upon our return on Tuesday, June 1st, Patti complained that the tops of her ears were really sunburnt and causing her pain. I admitted that mine were a bit well done, too.

"Maybe the ozone is depleting a lot faster than we thought and we should have spent even less time in the sun than we figured." I pondered.

"That's not it. There was something wrong with the sun." Patti said.

On Wednesday, June 2nd, Patti said her ears were pealing in a very strange way. The sunburnt skin being shed was hard, stiff, and thick. More like a scale than a sunburn.

"Oh, you're just upset because you got sunburned for the first time in years." I tried to console her.

"That's not it. There was something wrong with the sun." she reiterated.

On Thursday, June 3rd, my ears started pealing in the same strange way. I must admit it was a bit unsettling. Furthermore, neither one of us had been feeling well since the second day of our camping weekend. Nothing very serious, but our bodies felt worn out and extremely tired. We both experienced times when it felt like our skin was on fire. It seemed neither of us were experiencing the usual rejuvenation and invigoration that a visit with nature brings us. I made some grumpy comments - complaining about the thin air, the high altitude, the depleting ozone, and the first sun of the season.

"That's not it." Patti said. "There was something wrong with the sun."

A week passed. We stopped the strange pealing and slowly began to feel better. The unusual burning sensations diminished to something that felt akin to standing under an infra-red heat lamp. The events of that weekend started to fade into the background of our lives. They would have been completely forgotten by now had we not received an e-mail containing the article by Dr. Whitehorse.

"Hey Patti, listen to this." I said, as I read her the email.

"I've been telling you all along…there was something wrong with the sun!"

"And you were absolutely right." I told her. "It makes perfect sense to me. If the sun was getting ready to go through a major event, it stands to reason that during the build-up to that event, it was probably going through some radical changes in its atomic fusion process and very probably could have been generating a different type of radiation and affecting our bodies differently…especially at that high altitude. You were probably picking all that up intuitively, but didn't have the technical knowledge to intellectually understand what was happening so you."

"I don't understand a thing about that." Patti said. "But there was something wrong with the sun."

As we progress through the global transformations, perhaps it would behoove us all to not intellectually rationalize away a seemingly impossible intuition or awareness - no matter how preposterous it might seem. After all was said and done, I'm here to report that in fact, during, and shortly after the Memorial Day Weekend…"There was something wrong with the sun."

Hmmm…
